to see or not to see

TO SEE OR NOT TO SEE

Sight is what lies in front of us
Vision is what lies ahead of us
To what extent are we truly aware?
& if the truth be told would we even care?

The present is the here and now
The future is out there to achieve somehow
Some driven by ambitions and hopeless schemes
Whatever it takes! Whatever the cost! to achieve their dreams

Are we blinded to the problems that we face?
Or merely blinkered sinking without a trace
With so much at our disposal we have what it takes
More haste less speed if we are to avoid mistakes

The more we push the limits the higher the stakes
The chain only as strong as the weakest link before it breaks
Our past excesses and greed coming back to haunt
The proverbial “I told you so” a constant taunt

Making changes as we count the growing cost
Reality hits home, acutely aware that all was nearly lost
How did we fall so quickly and crumble so fast?
Is anything in today’s world ever truly meant to last?

Excuses and lies to hide our shameful disregard
No easy retreat, recovery will be long and hard
Beyond our control our pitiful defense
Masquerading as something other than false pretense

Lessons must be learned if we are to ever fully recover
There is still so much to achieve and for us to discover
With limited choices decisions will be hard to make
How well we will do depends upon the action we take
