poetry christmas day part 1

Christmas day part 1

Winding road leading where

Children playing without a care

Idyllic setting picturesque view

Wet under foot morning dew

Wrapped up warm gloves and scarf

Steady footing on the uneven path

Christmas day walk before the fight

Arguments forgotten by the fall of night

Time to kill, where shall we go

No need to rush, take it slow

Through the field or maybe the beach

If we’re lucky we might miss the queen’s speech

Past a sign that has no bearing

Beside a gate that’s long past caring

Near a brook that runs by a field

Dilapidated church partly concealed

Remove foliage nettles and grass

Just enough to enable us to pass

In through the opening what will we find?

Eerily spooky, deathly quiet, thoughtful mind

Picturing what once would have been

Lost in my imagination creating the scene

Community spirit everyone pulling together

Hardworking attitude never say never

Not long left, almost time to head back

Cloud filled sky heavy and black

Retracing steps back to the path

Soon be home warm hands by the hearth

Through the window watching snow fall

Covering traces of footprints one and all

Conversations, television drink or four

Hopefully not falling flat on the floor

Food to enjoy and later games to play

A happy ending to a happy Christmas day

Off to bed wrapped up warm and tight

Safe inside from the harsh winter’s night
