princess

Princess

In a kingdom far away

Within a tower a princess lay

Against her will trapped inside

Upon a bed bound and tied

Taken from her home by an evil king

His plan to have her wear his ring

Whatever the cost to make her his queen

The cruellest of men, nasty and mean

For days, nights, weeks, years

Keeping her trapped despite the tears

Breaking her will slowly each day

All she could do was hope and pray

Wishing that someone would hear her plea

And come to her rescue and set her free

Time passed slowly, she feared the worst

Perhaps the king was right, she had been cursed

As time passed, the tower became overgrown

Covered in ivy, a desolate place to be alone

The king had grown weary but would not yield

Too late, to mend the scars unhealed

Resigning herself forever to this fate

Realising as time passed by, it would soon be too late

Darkness fell on another day

Cold and hungry once again she tried to pray

Suddenly she heard a sound

The patter of hooves upon the ground

A passing knight had stopped to rest

Unaware in the tower a princess lay distressed

Mustering strength from deep within

She tried to warn of the predicament she was in

Would he hear, would her cry be in vain

Would her torment continue suffering in pain?

Silence then a deafening sound of swords entwined

What to think, slowly going out of her mind

What was happening how would it be?

Hoping and praying she soon would be free

Within a moment her knight appeared

With trusty sword, the ivy now cleared

Into the tower a prisoner no more

Exhausted and weak she fell to the floor

When she woke, she was far away

Free at last to live another day

By her side her knight in shining armour

Now not afraid resting much calmer

The knight revealed his identity

A prince in waiting, a king to be

He knew his father was wicked and cruel

And realised he could no longer let him rule

When he realised the king’s evil plan

He challenged his father, and became a man

Defending the honour of the princess that day

A duel to the end come what may

Being victorious righting the wrong

Freeing the princess, trapped for so long

Love at first sight they instantly new

She would become queen, with a king whose heart was true
