poetry TRYING TO UNDERSTAND

TRYING TO UNDERSTAND

Soothing voice enchant my mind

Foolishly in love oh so blind

Guided by others head over heels

Remembering how true love feels

Stolen moments with a price to pay

Words of love that ultimately betray

On a mission you sought me out

Removing my fears dissolving my doubt

Moving so fast no time to think

Poisoned by the chalice from which you drink

From phone to reality in the blink of an eye

Blissfully unaware it was no more than a lie

Unable to see blind to the fact

Your feelings you soon would retract

The precious moment’s morning or night

Holding you close felt so right

Making love it felt like a dream

The perfect match a winning team

So in tune as if we were meant to be

How true love blinds those that would see

Family friends seemingly on side

Encouraging you to walk tall with pride

Making plans sorting things out

Full of purpose no room for doubt

Key to the house space inside

Whatever you needed ready to oblige

Words of comfort he’ll hurt you no more

So sure that this time it was forever more

Confiding in me there by your side

Arm in arm walking with pride

Defending your honor easing your pain

Unable to see it was all in vain

Arranging to meet then out of the blue

Nothing but silence no word from you

Hours go by no call or text

Beside myself what to do next

Eventually get through but all was not fine

You were pulling away, no longer mine

Excuses flowed it’s not you it’s me

A veiled expression for wanting to be free

The sudden change caught unaware

Foolishly tricked thinking you care

Destroyed in an instance my faith in life

Put to the sword it cuts like a knife

Finding it hard trying to understand

Was it a game extremely we’ll planned

Was it a fling was I being used

Of all these crimes you stand accused

Heartbroken and weary you walked away

Followed by those I believed would back me all the way

Alone and empty with my head in my hand

Aching inside still trying to understand
