poetry the meaning of life

The meaning of life

What are we here for, what purpose do we serve?

And do we really get the things we deserve.

We wake each day and battle through

Always doing the best that we can do

Some days are good some days are bad

Sometimes happy sometimes sad

Life’s a journey a one way ride nowhere to run nowhere to hide

The strength to succeed is in us all

Sometimes we fight sometimes we fall

The decisions we make the choice is there for us all

It’s up to us to make the judgement call

What will be, fate cast’s its hand

Under no illusion of where we stand

Existing each day when are we living

Are we rewarded for all our giving?

Does society say we have a voice?

Do we have rights do we have choice

Can we decide how we will be?

The things we want the people we see

Must we assume and then be told

The choice is not ours and left in the cold

Will we marry will we not?

Are we happy with what we’ve got?

A baby or two to brighten our days

To mask the headache and clear the haze

A special moment from start to finish

The love for our children will never diminish

Their hopes and dreams we hold in our heart

Always there to play our part

Giving support and guidance too

By their side in all that they do

Even as adults they still rely

Upon our wisdom and shoulder to cry

Grandchildren may come nothing is certain

How will it end before the final curtain?

When time is up and we’ve done all we can do

Can we say to ourselves we are true?

Did we follow our hopes and dreams?

The endless ideas and hopeless schemes

There is no manual no easy way

Life gets more complex day by day

With every twist and every turn

The spoils taken by those that learn

All we can do is ride the knife

And hope that through all the trouble and strife

One day we will finally discover the meaning of life
