poetry untitled

UNTITLED

Close the window that’s never open

Shut the door unhinged and broken

Walk in rooms derelict and neglected

Discover something you never expected

Through the shell that once was home

A scene now reminiscent of a warzone

Debris strewn across the floor

What once was vibrant now no-more

Broken pictures, shattered dreams

Fallen ceilings and twisted beams

Dust so thick it looks just like snow

Blocked fireplace that once was aglow

Every room with a story to tell

Good, bad, happiness, hell

Memories rebuild and create a scene

A vision of happiness and daily routine

Winding stairs creaking as you go

Considered steps steady and slow

Taking the time to take it all in

Finding your feet before you begin

Like a child, somewhere you shouldn’t be

But curiosity takes over and you have to see

Individual pieces, a reminder of the past

In the blink of an eye gone too fast

Time goes slow but soon you must leave

Time to reflect time to grieve

Walking away down the stairs and out of the door

Down the path turning to glance once more

Left behind a broken house garden overgrown

Years of worry and stress, future unknown

An emotional journey reliving the past

Distant memories are all that last

Upon the carriage no longer in charge of the reins

Thoughts and prayers are all that remains

Leaving the past to lie starting a chapter new

Mustering what courage you can find to see you through
