poetry humble man

The humble man

From the day we are born and enter the world

A million things in our direction are hurled

So much to remember, so much for us to learn

Where ever life takes us every twist and turn

No set criteria, no blueprint from which to follow

The love and support we receive can often be hollow

Not everyone is lucky to have a loving family to rely upon

Fair-weather friends only there when it suits, then are gone

Through our schooling, and if we are lucky college education

We are taught values, right and wrong, whatever the situation

How we interpret what we see and hear sometimes confused not always clear

What influences us upon our journey and the course we steer?

Some work hard struggling to get what they need

While others take what they want consumed by greed

That in a nutshell is the harshness of life

A cutthroat journey everyday riding the knife

Some seek to gain from others misery and pain

Some take the risks and then others blame

The world in which we live we show little concern

Ultimately, from our misguided ways the harshest of lessons we will learn

We take for granted the things we have because that is all we know

While those less fortunate struggle with nothing to show

The general consensus being it will not happen to me

Tunnel vision, rushing headlong unable to see

When disaster strikes and the safety net fails

The juggernaut of life comes abruptly off its rails

A moment of clarity and stark realization

We are all to blame each and every nation

Thinking of others as well as ourselves and giving support

If we ignore we are only selling ourselves short

Life is for all and not just the few, in word and deed we must be true

For ultimately in life we will be held accountable for everything we do

Despite the trials and the tribulations

The difficulties and endless frustrations

Whether or not my life has gone to plan

I will always remain a humble man
