poetry a soldiers tale

A soldier’s tale

Alone fighting far from home

Battles, war we cannot condone

Choices made not considered

Many return dead, or disfigured

Leading the line! defending what?

What justification have we got?

Placed in a position we have no voice

This is not our war, not our choice

Those in power who seek control

Guided by the devil, have no soul

A fake excuse for right over wrong

While the suffering goes on and on

Constant danger faced with courage, and grit

But, what side of the fence do we sit?

Why should we care, when we are not there?

The damage is done we cannot repair

A son, a daughter, someone’s child

Will our conscience ever be reconciled?

Who can live with the guilt and remorse?

Time will tell as it runs its course

The power of war in all its glory

Through the graphic detail however gory

It’s not romantic, or always a just cause

But what we believe, is our choice, mine and yours

Details sketchy; told what we need to know

The real horror and truth never on show

A masquerade of deceit and lies

They pray we never open our eyes

Returning home the lucky few

Leaving behind comrades, they knew

The fallen ones who live no more

Was it all worth it what was it for

The world we live in we slowly destroy

Treating life as our own personal toy

We fail to embrace and are unable to see

Our planet is fragile soon to be history
