poetry tomato sauce

Tomato sauce

From Sunday lunch and beans on toast

To lasagne the meal I love the most

One thing is a must that is of course

A bottle of the finest Heinz tomato sauce

Not a phase, not a fad, though it drives people mad

An ever present accompaniment to every meal I’ve ever had

A blend of ingredients and the finest tomatoes combine

To make a smooth, silky sauce, that’s simply sublime

Never use value, always buy the best

No substitute sauce will ever pass the test

A metaphoric al chameleon, it suits any food

Setting the scene creating the mood

So right in so many ways, so perfect in the role it plays

The cherry on the top, icing on the cake

Adding the finishing touch to whatever you make

But don’t get me wrong, I can go without

Some meals are great as they are, of this there’s no doubt

But like a friend it’s there when you’re in need

Flowing gently from the bottle, never at speed

Caressing the food, adding a unique twist

So seductive it would be hard to resist

Whatever your view or judgements made in haste

This finest of sauces is not too everyone’s taste

But for those of us who warm to its charms

This is one sauce I will always welcome with open arms
